Summary
Create a book jacket design for a series of books that distills the essence of it’s story into an imaginative and visually striking concept. Books: Children of Ruin & Children of Time Genre: Sci-Fi
Approach
The original book cover is a literal depiction of space ships and planets on a stylized star field back drop. I aimed to make the redesign more abstract and visceral. The story has a sublimely executed element of cosmic horror, so I sought to emphasize this in my redesign concept.
Children of Ruin Jacket Design
Children of Ruin is a hard sci-fi story that adds an element of cosmic horror to the space adventure narrative of the first book in it's series, Children of Time.
A central theme of the book revolves around the horror and dread the crew members experience during first contact with an extraterrestrial resembling a slick black iridescent sludge.
